External project
Due to the gaps created by the global pandemic in the educational field, we found it necessary to create this project, called "Patchwork Quilt," through an external program providing pedagogical support and psychosocial care. This program involves the family environment with workshops outside of the regular school day, serving two groups of 20 children and adolescents each, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, for a total of 40 families. Participants will receive in-home medical care, food security, parent training, and opportunities for constructive use of free time through sports. This allows us to develop psychosocial, pedagogical, social, artistic, family, and community skills, where we seek to strengthen the knowledge and learning of rural and urban populations through innovative methodologies that connect with our ancestral roots. This approach takes into account the abilities of the target population, based on Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, and uses art as a primary tool.
It is important to recognize that the Colombian education system faces multifaceted challenges, from access to the quality of teaching. Added to this are the results of the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which confirm that the Colombian education system is poor, falling far short of the OECD average of other Latin American countries. These countries outperform Colombia in critical thinking, mathematics, and other areas, which is also associated with low opportunities for students to engage in training programs for working life and productive activities, thus significantly impacting their life plans.
